Sometimes unexpected things can happen when you travel. For example – while wandering through Singapore one evening, we wound up witnessing a live performance of one of Singapore’s classic 1970’s hits.
After being refused entry at the world’s highest altitude microbrewery (Level 33, all booked up!) we made our way down the nearby Olympic Walk and into the Marina Bay Sands shopping center. We were watching the city lights turn on as night fell:
And then got absorbed with how large and impressive the mall was. Seriously – it even had a river inside:
As a side-note, that globe building in the above picture is actually the world’s only “floating” Apple store, accessible via an escalator from underground. So we had to check that out:
The mall had a convenient MRT (Subway) station attached – Singapore is so very well planned out – and we were close to Gardens by the Bay, so we decided to check it out at nighttime. Got some great photos of the Marina Bay Sands building as we exited:
Approaching the Gardens, we noticed some lights in the distance and started to hear music:
Turns out, there is a free nighttime music and light-show every half-hour in the Supertree Garden!
As an added bonus, we actually stumbled into an ongoing event supporting mental health awareness – called Beyond The Label. There was food and several stands with different organizations promoting their activities. We got this free bag:
And to top it all off, there was a stage with various performers going on. We sat down not really knowing what to expect, and wound up hearing a song that got stuck in our heads for the rest of our visit (it still is to this day, if we’re being honest).
That song was Fried Rice Paradise by Dick Lee – originally released in the 1970s, featured in a musical in the 90’s, and re-released several times over the years, this is a bona-fide Singaporean hit. And an earworm as well!
