From August to October, we spent 54 days on the road in New Zealand, moving from place to place and driving an average of 70 miles per day. Next we spent a very busy week in the very busy city-state of Singapore, walking well over 20,000 steps per day exploring as much as we could.
Then, we made it to Bali and things slowed down. We weren’t exactly planning on this, but once we arrived our room ($27/night) looked like this:
And sunsets on the beach looked like this:
Now – we didn’t just chill out exclusively while we were in Bali. We stayed at 3 different locations across the southern half of the island – Canggu, Ubud, and Padang Bai – Clint attempted to surf, and we did have several more adventures (stay tuned!); but this destination definitely contained the most days of us doing just “nothing” besides going out for meals.
Part of the reason for our chilling was the catch-up of weariness from our 2 very active prior destinations. The other, possibly more important, reason was just how easy it is to relax in Bali. First off – you don’t really feel guilty that you aren’t “doing enough” with your time here if you take a day or 2 to chill. How could you not want to spend time in these rooms ($21-27 USD/nightly cost):
2 of which had these pools:
And the 3rd which had this ocean view:
The low daily cost of rooms is compounded by the low-cost of both food and activities – most of our excellent meals here were under $30 USD, and for most of our time here we could freely visit beaches that looked like this:
Again we weren’t complete sloths during our month in Bali (stay tuned!) but we just had to mention how excellent of a place it is to relax and unwind. After 2 months in a campervan, rooms with king beds were enough of a reason not to get up!
