The Palaces of Seoul, Korea

The Korean peninsula has a vast and extensive history, tracing as far back as 4000 BC. They have been conquerors and colonized multiple times over, with countless empires rising and falling leading into the modern era. While historical places can be found throughout the country, Seoul is a prominent center for landmark palaces reflecting several different eras.

We spent a day of our visit to the gigantic city exploring as many as we could, and tried to capture the essence of each as best we could through photos. We visited 4 different palace sites, with a pitstop in a traditional “Hanok” neighborhood. Even though it was still wintertime, we had no trouble getting lost among the beautiful architecture and manicured gardens – all said and done, Kaitlin’s step-counter racked up over 25,000 steps on this day!

Enjoy our collection of photos from each place we visited. In what’s becoming a theme of our trip, though, pictures can never truly do a place justice – you’ve got to visit for yourself to get the full effect. Also, despite all of our walking we didn’t get to all of Seoul’s famous palaces during our visit…we left some for you to explore yourself!
