Loyal Wandering Walleye visitors already know the Minammurra River, which runs alongside the shared neighborhood property of our Australian hosts and was featured in some previous posts. But we aren’t done showing it off.
About 4 km (2 miles) up Jamberoo Mountain Road, a side-road leads to the Minamurra Rainforest Centre. As the name suggests, this is your access point to the Minamurra Rainforest within Budderoo (not to be confused with Booderee) National Park. This protected area is one of the few remaining subtropical rainforests in the world.
The recent 5-day downpour caused rockslides which damaged and temporarily closed the path leading to the top of the falls; however the boardwalk around the lower falls and rainforest was still open!
Fittingly, it rained during our time here – normally I’d be upset, but in this case I think it added to the rainforest vibe. This walk features several distinct types of rainforest environment, a high and rapidly flowing Minamurra River (boosted by 15+ inches of recent rainfall) and several side-waterfalls and creeks flowing into the main river. Enjoy!
