Fiji was a contrast to Australia on the drinks side; there aren’t many different types of beer you can get on the island. They do have some craftier beers – one we saw often was Vonu – but most of the time what you find is a version of “The National Beer” of Fiji.
This beer comes in 2 varieties, known as “Fiji Gold” and “Fiji Bitter.” It also comes in 2 sizes – a “stubby” or normal sized bottle, and a “longneck” 1 liter bottle. For the price-to-beer ratio, it was longnecks all the way for us.

Both Fiji Gold and Bitter are your basic lager style beer, but Bitter is a bit more, well, bitter. After a hot day in the sun, they were a perfect way to cool down and relax.
By the way, this was the only bar on Nanuya Lailai Island – we didn’t go every day, but at the end of our 10 day stay they did start to recognize us.

Also, if we wanted any beer at our homestay we had to buy them here and carry them back ourselves – either over, around, or through the island.
Got to enjoy these in some pretty picturesque locations!
