Visiting Thailand is actually a return for the Walleye – we came here for 3 weeks on our honeymoon in 2018. Returning somewhere you’ve been before (especially a place as amazing as Thailand) offers the opportunity to explore deeper for new things you may have missed your first time, but also allows you to reconnect and experience some things for a second time.
A riverboat tour of Bangkok with @bangkokriverboat was one of our reconnections. We first met Charlie back in 2018 – he is actually an old friend of Kaitlin’s uncle (Bill of Bill’s Menu on this site) and has lived in Bangkok for the past several decades. Fun fact – they are actually old friends from a 1970’s hippie commune in North Carolina! Uncle Bill bought our riverboat ride as a honeymoon present back in 2018, this time it was on our dime.
A riverboat tour of Bangkok is a must-do for any visitor to the city – hopefully this video provides a preview as to why. From the wide stretches of the Chao Phraya River you can explore a giant maze of canals – known as “khlongs” in Thailand – that wind through the city into outlying areas. On this tour we made a pit-stop at some Buddhist temples, fed some temple fish, and saw a recently-completed 69-meter (230 ft) tall statue of Buddha, one of the largest in Asia. As night fell, we also got to see some of the spectacular city lights (and lit-up dinner cruise ships). Enjoy!
