Hiking is a very popular pastime in Korea, with many amazing parks full of hiking trails easily accessible throughout the country. One such example is Bukhansen National Park, located on the north side of Seoul.
The park is centered around 3 mountain peaks – Baekundae, (836.5m), Insubong, (810.5m) and Mangnyeongdae, (799.5m) – and is full of interlocking hiking trails for every level of hiker. You can take a (relatively) easy stroll along the bottom of the mountains, hike straight up them, or anything else in between.
Bukhansen is just a short Metro or Bus ride away from the Seoul City center, making it a very popular hiking destination. We spent a day wandering through the forest in Bukhansen, taking in the late-winter scenery (there was still some snow on the ground!) and panoramic views of the city. We also came across a few buddhist temples along the route.
The video ends with some footage around a temple and clips from our short (~1km) walk from the park back to the train station for our ride home. It really is amazing how close to nature you are in Seoul, the world’s 3rd largest metropolis. Enjoy!
