The province of Chiang Mai is home to over 300 wats (temples), the most of any province in Thailand. No visit to the city, therefore, is truly complete without a visit to as many as you can explore.
We dedicated one full day to exclusively visiting Chiang Mai’s temples during our stay, and made several more spontaneous stops as we stumbled upon temples (it is surprisingly easy to do) the rest of our time in the city.
In addition to their cultural and religious significance, the wats in Chiang Mai are simply beautiful to behold. From ancient ruins to modern constructions, all have a unique character which has to be seen to truly appreciate.
Below is a collection of photography from our tour through the wats of Chiang Mai. Similar to the post on Bangkok’s wats, we’ve grouped the photos from “famous” temples together with an additional group of the lesser-known temples we passed through. Enjoy!
