We spent a total of 5 weeks touring New South Wales – Sydney and several cities/towns throughout the South Coast. To stick with our budget we did do a lot of home cooking (in both our AirBnbs and with our host family – stay tuned there!); however we had more than enough opportunity to sample the local cuisine.
Australia is interesting in the culinary department – while there are some true “Australian” dishes, the overall food environment is very globalized. To compare with our hometown (Toledo, Ohio) in the US, there isn’t as much Mexican food variety, however the Asian food is much more diverse – you can find Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Malaysian, etc. even in smaller towns, instead of just “Chinese” or Sushi like back home.
Enjoy this sampling of our food-tour through New South Wales. Coffee, burgers, pancakes, meat pies, sushi (Kengo is still champion), fine dining, soup/salads, and more!
