The world-famous Gardens by the Bay are an absolute must-do on any visit to Singapore, whether you have lots of time to explore or just a few days. The gardens were opened in 2011 as part of Singapore’s ongoing efforts to transform from a “Garden City” to a “City in a Garden.”
Located in the heart of downtown, the 250+ acres of gardens are easily accessible from multiple public transport stations. The grounds are spectacular in their own right, with several large ponds, sculpture gardens, and the Supertree Grove – probably the most famous landmark – freely open to the public. There’s even a free nightly light show!
Before our trip we knew we’d be making a stop to the Gardens; however we weren’t prepared for just how much there is to do there. In addition to the free gardens to walk through, there are 3 fully-indoor (and air-conditioned) botanical gardens to explore for a fee: a Flower Garden with plant species from around the world, a Cloud Forest which imitates this rare type of natural environment, and Floral Fantasy with creative/artistic flower arrangements throughout. You can also pay to do the Skywalk above the canopy between two of the supertrees, and the Observatory on top of the tallest tree. You can even enjoy a beer in this one:
Of course, the Gardens also feature their very own Hawker Centre – Satay by the Bay. You know we had to try that:
What was planned as a few-hour’s visit to the Gardens turned into an all-day event. We ended up buying tickets for all of the paid attractions, and made it to every one!
Enjoy this video compilation of all the amazing sights – but seriously, if you ever visit Singapore this is 100% a must-do.
