Early on in the background of our video hiking the Mount John Loop, you may have noticed an interesting complex:
Allow us to introduce Tekapo Springs – a complex of thermal pools located right on the coast of Lake Tekapo.
For us, visiting was a no-brainer – the springs were just a 1 minute walk from the holiday park. Also, a 2-day pass was heavily discounted so we visited on 2 of our 3 days in Tekapo!
While this place doesn’t boast the variety or number of different pools (or, for that matter, waterslides) as the Hanmer Springs Hot Pools, it more than makes up for it with the location. From each of the complex’s three hot pools (note: a fourth “play” pool was closed when we visited) you’re treated to spectacular views over the glacial lake.
But hot pools aren’t the only thing this place offers. There is also a full spa, an ice skating rink, and even a sledding hill available for use! We did not partake in any of these, but we did enjoy a few beers at the cafe and spent some time in their plunge pool/steam room/sauna during one of our visits (extra $7/pp charge).
This was a great, affordable place to spend some time unwinding – especially good on the bones after 5+ weeks of sleeping in a campervan and hiking all over New Zealand!
