Ubud – Bali, Indonesia
Compared to our earlier adventures in Australia/New Zealand and our hometown in the USA, Bali is a much different place to hike. For one thing, the heat and humidity makes everything a much sweatier affair. For another, the island is quite fully inhabited (at least where we visited, did not make it to the deep interior rainforests) so it is more difficult to come across pure natural environments.
This does not mean, however, that hiking is inaccessible or that you can’t find natural beauty. Things are just a bit different, as you’ll see in this video.
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is a trail about 2.5km long running from the busy town of Ubud out into serene, terraced rice paddies. Along the way you walk along a ridge overlooking an area of native rainforest. Once making it to the small village you come across several small shops/restaurants (we stopped for drinks at one…Bali is very hot) before making it out among the farmers in the rice fields.
This video starts at the palace within Ubud and takes you all the way out the trail and back. There is also some bonus footage at the end of the Ubud Art Market, and we end on a street scene while enjoying post-hike drinks. As a further bonus, we also encounter several Bali dogs and a few local chickens along the trail. Enjoy!
