Bonus – Bongeunsa Temple

While Seoul is full of palaces, it’s definitely not only palaces. For example, you can find many historic Buddhist temples throughout the city as well! One of the more well known is Bongeunsa, located south of the Han river in the Gangnam district. This temple has a very long history, being built before (and destroyed and rebuilt during) the Joseon period.

The temple has a large main hall, several smaller buildings, residences for monks (and temple-stay visitors) and a 23-meter tall statue of the Bodhisattva Maitryea – all with the huge skyscrapers of Gangnam as a backdrop.
