Finding your way around in India can be a bit overwhelming. While there are some “major” attractions to visit, everywhere you go will be full of spots vying for your visit. Beyond that, the roads can be difficult to navigate – not to mention absolutely packed with other drivers.
Fortunately, it is not difficult at all to find a willing and helpful tuk tuk driver. For a fee (you’ll definitely want to negotiate) you can hire a driver for a full day – they will take you to the sites you want to see, and wait for you outside.
This isn’t for the faint of heart – through the day you’ll constantly be telling other tuk tuk drivers “no,” and even might need to tell yours “no” to some sites they suggest. But, overall this is the best way to get around in India.
We hired a tuk tuk driver from our hotel in Jaipur to take us around for a day. We first visited the Amber Fort – a giant fortress built in the 1500’s, high on a hill outside the city.
From there we made our way to the City Palace within Jaipur’s city limits. Along the way, however, we stopped at a few other locations – including a large step-well and a palace “floating” in a lake!
This was a whirlwind day of sightseeing – we actually even got everything done before a huge thunderstorm rolled in during the afternoon. Enjoy!
